We’re all about Marin County. Your financial co-op since 1963.

We’re Marin County’s financial co-op, founded in 1963, and owned entirely by our members, most of whom live or work right here in Marin County. We’re also not-for-profit; that means we return our profits to our members by charging lower loan rates and paying competitive savings rates.

How to join >>

Anyone who lives, works, attends school or worships in Marin County is eligible to become a member.

To join, you must open a Share Savings Account with at least $5, which is your share in the credit union, and a one-time $5 membership fee. And remember, once you’re a member, you’re a member for life — no matter where life takes you.

And once you join, members of your family are eligible for membership.

History >>

We started in 1963 as San Rafael Federal Credit Union, and we served a narrow field of membership; you could only join if you were an elected or appointed San Rafael city official, or worked for Marin County.

Since then, we’ve grown and evolved, adding new products and services. A few highlights:

  • May 27, 1963 First board meeting
  • November 16, 1973 Changed name to Marin Public Employees Federal Credit Union
  • November, 1973 Merged with Novato Public Employees Federal Credit Union
  • September, 1992 Changed name to Marin County Federal Credit Union
  • August, 1999 Community charter granted. A community charter was an important step in our growth. It allowed us to expand our field of membership so we could serve all our friends and neighbors in Marin County, regardless of where they work.
